We admit that hair is any woman’s best friend, so you should understand how to deal with your curly hair to achieve your hair goals, and this blog will help you know your hair porosity type, how to deal with it, and which products are suitable for your hair.

  • What does hair porosity mean & what are its types?

You may have heard about “hair porosity” before and how important it’s for curly hair routine,

So we’ll clarify it for you, hair porosity is simply the ability of your hair to absorb water and moisture.

Types of hair porosity are:

High porosity – Medium porosity – Low porosity.

High porosity: when your hair quickly absorbs water and hair moisturizers, it tends to be frizzy & dry and doesn’t take time to air-dry.

Medium porosity: when it looks healthy without frizz, and it doesn’t take too much time to air dry.

Low porosity: when your hair doesn’t absorb moisturizers easily, and water hardly saturate your hair while washing.

  • How to know your hair porosity type?

To know its type, you can make a simple test; first, take a single hair from your comb, wash it with shampoo, then sink it in a glass of water and wait for one of these results to happen:

  • If it floats at the top before sinking, it means you have low porosity hair.
  • If it floats in the middle of the glass, it means you have medium porosity hair.
  • If it quickly sinks to the bottom of the glass, it means you have high porosity hair.

You can also test your hair porosity by running a finger down a strand of your hair; if you find it smooth, it might be low porosity, and if you find it rough and tangled, it might be high porosity.

After knowing your hair porosity type, let’s discuss how to take care of your curly hair:

1- Wash your hair with shampoo once a week.

We know that washing your hair with shampoo is refreshing and feels better, but you shouldn’t overdo it as shampooing your hair everyday can stretch your delicate strands and dry out the curls, so if you want to wash your hair more than once a week, you can use conditioner instead (co-wash) using a chemical-free conditioner.

Choose your shampoo wisely:

Your shampoo should be sulfate and chemical-free, as chemicals are very harmful to your curls, and depending on the porosity test, you can choose a suitable shampoo for your hair porosity type.

Toya free-sulfate shampoo is suitable for all hair types, as it cleans your hair and moisturizes it with glycerin; use it once a week with Toya conditioner that helps moisturize your hair with the argan oil that reduces damage caused by heat.

2- Follow a pre-wash routine.

Choosing your pre-wash routine depends on your hair porosity type, as high porosity hair may need deep conditioning & oil masks twice a week before washing, but low & normal porosity hair may need deep conditioning & masks once a week.

3- Avoid washing your hair with hot water.

Hot water can cause your hair to look dry and split your hair ends; unlike cold or lukewarm water, it helps maintain the crude oil in the hair, giving it extra moisture and a shiny look.

4- Don’t brush your curly hair.

Dry curly hair is more breakable when you brush it, so brushing your hair every day isn’t a good idea. Instead, During the shower, you can separate your hair into segments and detangle it using your fingers when adding your conditioner. Then, after the shower, you can comb it when it’s a little damp, adding your favorite serum.

We recommend using Toya hair serum for easy detangling and hair shining.

5- Protect your hair while you sleep.

Have you ever wondered why your hair gets frizzy while sleeping? Most probably because you’re sleeping on a cotton pillowcase which’s not good for your hair look; You can replace it with a silk or a satin pillowcase or wear a silk cap to protect your hair. Also, you preferably wrap your hair in a pineapple.

6- Take a break from heat styling.

Heat styling tools are the worst enemy for your curly hair, as it degrades the moisture in your hair and it changes the shape of its keratin strands exaggerating the appearance of split ends.

You can use moderate heat and protectant serum before heating if you want to style it with heat.

7- Hair oiling and moisturizing masks

Oiling your hair is an essential part of your curly hair routine, as your curls need moisture to be locked and protected. However, if you tried to oil your hair with raw oils, you may have faced some challenges like having frizzy hair or hair loss. Did you ever wonder why?

It’s because your hair needs just extracts of oils, not pure oil.

What oils does your hair need and for what?

Castor oil: it increases the blood flow of your scalp, and it’s essential for hair growth.

Jojoba oil: rich in vitamins and minerals that nourish your hair, including vitamin C, E, B, and zinc, it can be used as a moisturizer and a protectant against dryness.

Argan oil: protectant against sun & heat, it improves your scalp health.

Wheat germ oil: Provides strength to your hair and prevents hair loss.

Coconut oil: a good protein source for your hair; it moisturizes and protects the cuticle of your hair.

Bergamot oil: Rich in antioxidants & antimicrobials that help shield the hair and scalp against the damage caused by oxidative stress.

As we said, your hair just needs extracts of oils, so Toya’s medical team decided to produce a hair rescue product to moisturize and reduce your hair damage. It includes most of the previous oils extracts (Castor oil – Jojoba oil – Almond oil – Olive oil – Wheat germ oil –  Coconut oil – Rose oil) in just one bottle called “Toya hair oil” to nourish your hair and give it all its needs.

For hair loss, you can use Toya anti-hair loss lotion with bergamot oil, vitamin E, castor oil & ginger oil to stimulate hair growth.

Toya’s bits of advice for you:
